On This Day March 27 1981 - Carl Wilson Released His Debut Solo Album
On this day March 27 1981 Carl Wilson released his self titled debut solo album. Known as a founding member and the lead guitarist of The Beach Boys Carl stepped into the spotlight with a collection of tracks that showcased his smooth vocals and laid back California sound.

The album reached number 185 on the Billboard charts and featured a mix of soft rock and soulful pop. While it didn’t make a huge commercial splash it gave fans a more personal look at Carl’s musical style outside of the iconic Beach Boys sound.

80s insight: Carl Wilson co wrote all the tracks on the album and played a major role in the production making it a true solo effort in every sense.
