On This Day March 24 1984 - The Breakfast Club Took Place on a Saturday
On this day March 24 1984 the events of the iconic 80s film The Breakfast Club were set. The story followed five high school students from different cliques who were forced to spend a Saturday in detention at Shermer High School. Over the course of the day the teens opened up to each other revealing their struggles fears and identities beyond the labels they had been given.

Directed by John Hughes the film starred Emilio Estevez Molly Ringwald Judd Nelson Anthony Michael Hall and Ally Sheedy. It became a defining moment in teen cinema and is widely considered one of the greatest coming-of-age films of all time. The Breakfast Club struck a chord with audiences by showing that no matter how different people seem they often share the same insecurities and desires.

80s insight: Shermer High School doesn’t exist in real life. It was a fictional school used in several John Hughes films and was inspired by Hughes’s hometown of Northbrook Illinois.
