On this day March 21 1986 the drama film Just Between Friends premiered in theaters. Directed by Allan Burns the film starred Mary Tyler Moore Christine Lahti Sam Waterston and Ted Danson in a heartfelt story about friendship love and betrayal.

The film followed a woman who befriends a fitness instructor only to later discover she is having an affair with her husband. Balancing emotional drama with strong performances Just Between Friends explored themes of trust and personal growth. Though it wasn’t a major box office hit earning 6.4 million it was praised for its performances particularly from Mary Tyler Moore and Christine Lahti.

80s insight: Director Allan Burns was best known for co-creating The Mary Tyler Moore Show making this film a reunion of sorts for him and Mary Tyler Moore.
