On This Day February 27 1987 - Some Kind of Wonderful Premiered in Theaters
On this day February 27 1987 Some Kind of Wonderful premiered in theaters. Written by John Hughes and directed by Howard Deutch, the film was another classic 80s teen romance that followed the emotional struggles of love, friendship, and social class differences.

Starring Eric Stoltz, Mary Stuart Masterson, Craig Sheffer, and Lea Thompson, the movie told the story of Keith Nelson, an artistic outsider who finds himself torn between his longtime crush Amanda Jones and his best friend Watts, who secretly loves him. The film was praised for its deeper emotional themes, relatable characters, and strong performances, especially from Masterson as the tough but vulnerable Watts.

Although it didn’t achieve the same box office success as John Hughes’ other teen films like Pretty in Pink and The Breakfast Club, Some Kind of Wonderful became a cult favorite over the years and is considered one of the best 80s romantic dramas.

80s insight: Lea Thompson and director Howard Deutch fell in love on the set and have been married since 1989.
