On this day, December 2, 1988, the sci-fi horror film Watchers premiered in theaters. Directed by Tom Hess and based on the novel by Dean Koontz, the film starred Corey Haim, Michael Ironside, Barbara Williams, and Lala Sloatman.

Watchers follows the story of a boy (Haim) and a genetically engineered golden retriever with heightened intelligence as they are pursued by a government-created creature. The film combined elements of suspense, science fiction, and horror, though it received mixed reviews and grossed $940,000 at the box office.
