On January 1, 1985, VH1 (Video Hits One) was launched as a music video channel targeting a slightly older demographic than MTV. The network focused on playing softer, more adult-oriented music videos compared to MTV’s edgier lineup.

Fun Fact!

The very first video played on VH1 was Marvin Gaye’s soulful rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Were you more of an MTV or VH1 fan back in the day?
