On this day September 6, 1986, Bananarama’s hit song “Venus” soared to the #1 spot on the U.S. charts, holding its position until September 12. The infectious pop anthem also reached #1 in several other countries, including Canada, Switzerland, Finland, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.

Bananarama, the British-Irish pop sensation, was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the highest-selling female band of all time from 1982 to 2009, thanks to their numerous hits and global success.
