Star Tours was a milestone for Disneyland as it was the first attraction in the park not based on a property originally licensed by Disney. Created in collaboration with George Lucas and Industrial Light & Magic, the ride combined cutting-edge simulator technology with a storyline that placed guests on a turbulent space voyage led by the bumbling droid RX-24 (Rex).
The attraction was an instant hit and helped pave the way for future collaborations between Disney and Lucasfilm, eventually leading to the creation of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
Fun Fact: The original Star Tours featured a pilot voiced by Paul Reubens, best known as Pee-wee Herman!
Did you ride the original Star Tours? How do you think it compares to the updated Star Tours: The Adventures Continue or other Star Wars attractions at Disney parks?
