On this day, November 28, 1980, The Jam released their fifth studio album, Sound Affects. Featuring a mix of punk energy, mod revival sounds, and introspective lyrics, the album showcased the band’s growing maturity and experimentation.

Sound Affects reached #2 on the UK charts and peaked at #72 on the Billboard charts in the U.S. Tracks like “Start!” and “That’s Entertainment” became fan favorites, with the latter considered one of the band’s most iconic songs despite never being released as a single in the UK.
