On this day September 10, 1980, the action-revenge film The Exterminator, directed by James Glickenhaus, hit theaters. Starring Robert Ginty, Samantha Eggar, Christopher George, and Steve James, the film was made on a modest $2 million budget but went on to become a commercial success, grossing $35 million at the box office.

The film tells the story of a Vietnam War veteran who becomes a vigilante, taking justice into his own hands after a traumatic event. The Exterminator quickly gained a cult following for its gritty, violent take on revenge and street justice, solidifying its place in 80s action cinema.
