On this day, October 10, 1980, David Lynch’s acclaimed film The Elephant Man had its general release in theaters. The film, starring John Hurt, Anthony Hopkins, and Anne Bancroft, was a box office success, earning $26 million on a $5 million budget. It had earlier premiered in New York City on October 3.
