On this day, December 9, 1983, Clint Eastwood’s Sudden Impact premiered in theaters. The fourth installment in the Dirty Harry series, the film starred Clint Eastwood as the no-nonsense detective Harry Callahan, with Sondra Locke delivering a compelling performance as a vigilante seeking justice.

Directed by Eastwood himself, Sudden Impact became the highest-grossing entry in the Dirty Harry franchise, earning $150 million worldwide on a $22 million budget. The film is perhaps best known for introducing the iconic line, “Go ahead, make my day,” which became one of the most famous quotes in cinema history.
