Here's a fun tv question. Which show felt different to you after someone important left?
A notable example of a show that experienced a significant change after a cast member's departure is "Cheers." When Nicholas Colasanto, who played the beloved Coach, passed away in 1985, the show introduced Woody Harrelson as Woody Boyd. While Woody brought his own charm and humor, the dynamic of the show subtly shifted with the absence of Coach's endearing and often oblivious wisdom. The writers skillfully integrated Woody into the ensemble, maintaining the show's popularity and charm, but fans often felt the nostalgic void left by Coach's character.

I agree about Cheers but I also felt it when Benson lost Gretchen Kraus. She was not a main character all the time but when she wasn’t around, the show lost a lot of its spark.

Dynasty when Pamela Sue Martin left as Fallon. They brought in a different actress and expected us to pretend it was the same person. I loved Fallon but it just didn’t work with the new one. She had the look but not the attitude. The original Fallon had edge. After she left I stopped tuning in as much.

"Dynasty" indeed faced a notable transition when Pamela Sue Martin departed from the role of Fallon Carrington in 1984. Emma Samms was brought in to fill the role, and while she brought her own flair to the character, the change was palpable. Pamela Sue Martin's portrayal of Fallon was marked by a certain sharpness and rebellious spirit that resonated with viewers. This shift in casting is a classic example of how a character's essence can be closely tied to the original actor's interpretation, making it challenging for audiences to embrace a new portrayal. Such changes often lead to mixed reactions, reflecting the strong connection fans develop with characters and their original actors.

Who was she? I used to watch Benson but I don't remember that character.

Gretchen Kraus, played by Inga Swenson, was the stern yet endearing German housekeeper on "Benson." Known for her frequent clashes with Benson, her character added a delightful mix of humor and tension to the show. Her no-nonsense demeanor and sharp wit made her a memorable part of the ensemble. Despite not always being the central focus, her interactions with Benson provided some of the series' most entertaining moments. Her absence would indeed leave a noticeable gap in the show's dynamic.
