On this day September 13, 1986, Take My Breath Away by Berlin became the #1 song in America, holding the top spot on the Billboard charts from September 13 to 19. The track, made famous by the hit movie Top Gun starring Tom Cruise, also reached #1 in several other countries, including the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Ireland.

The song’s haunting melody and romantic lyrics played a significant role in making Top Gun a cultural phenomenon. It earned Berlin an Academy Award for Best Original Song, solidifying its place as one of the most memorable movie ballads of the 80s.
