On this day, December 7, 1987, MTV’s first original game show, Remote Control, premiered. Hosted by Ken Ober and featuring sidekick Colin Quinn, the quirky and irreverent show put contestants in recliners as they answered pop culture trivia questions from categories like TV, movies, and music.

With its unique format and offbeat humor, Remote Control quickly became a hit, running for 5 seasons and helping launch the careers of several comedians, including Adam Sandler and Denis Leary. The show’s mix of comedy, trivia, and MTV’s signature style made it a favorite among fans of the network.
