On this day, October 18, 1985, the cult classic horror film Re-Animator premiered in theaters. Directed by Stuart Gordon and starring Bruce Abbott, Barbara Crampton, David Gale, Robert Sampson, and Jeffrey Combs, the movie was based on H.P. Lovecraft’s story “Herbert West–Reanimator.” With a budget of $900,000, Re-Animator went on to earn $2 million at the box office and became a fan favorite in the horror genre. The film is well-known for its over-the-top gore and dark humor, helping it cement its place in 80s horror cinema history.
