On this day September 16 1984, the family sitcom Punky Brewster premiered on NBC. The series told the story of a spirited young girl named Punky, played by Soleil Moon Frye, who along with her dog Brandon is abandoned by her mother and taken in by a grumpy but kind foster parent, Henry Warnimont, portrayed by George Gaynes.
