On this day, November 20, 1981, McClain’s Law premiered on NBC. Starring James Arness as retired lawman Jim McClain, the series followed him as he returned to the police force to fight crime after the murder of a close friend.

Though the show only lasted for one season with 16 episodes, it offered a gritty look at crime-solving and gave fans of Arness another chance to see the beloved Gunsmoke star in action.

Did you ever watch McClain’s Law? Do you think it deserved a longer run?
