On this day June 8, 1985, Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Tears for Fears became the number one song in America. It held the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 through June 21 and also reached number one in Canada and New Zealand.

With its smooth guitar riff, thoughtful lyrics, and polished production, the track became one of the signature songs of the decade. It was the breakout American hit for Tears for Fears and helped their album Songs from the Big Chair become a worldwide success...
