On this day June 28 1988, the final episode of J.J. Starbuck aired, bringing an end to the short lived detective drama after just one season and sixteen episodes.

Starring Dale Robertson as a wealthy Texan turned traveling crime solver, the series was created by Stephen J. Cannell and followed a formula of solving mysteries with a folksy charm and moral wisdom. Despite its unique premise, the show struggled to find a consistent audience and was quietly canceled.
