On This Day: June 10, 1985 - R.E.M. Releases Fables of the Reconstruction.

On this day June 10, 1985, R.E.M. released their third studio album Fables of the Reconstruction. Departing from the jangly brightness of their earlier records, the band explored darker, more atmospheric territory with lyrics rooted in Southern folklore and small town mystique.

The album reached number 28 on the US Billboard charts and was produced in London by Joe Boyd, known for his work with British folk acts. Fables of the Reconstruction offered a more brooding and layered sound...
