On this day, December 25, 1981, Chuck Woolery hosted his final episode of Wheel of Fortune due to a contract dispute. Woolery’s departure marked the end of an era for the show, which he had hosted since its debut in 1975.

After leaving Wheel of Fortune, Woolery went on to host The Dating Game and other television game shows. Following his exit, Pat Sajak stepped in as the new host, beginning his own legendary run with the series.
