On this day April 7, 1984, the original run of Mama’s Family came to an end with the airing of its final episode on NBC. Created by Dick Clair and Jenna McMahon, the sitcom was based on a recurring sketch from The Carol Burnett Show and starred Vicki Lawrence as the sharp tongued, no nonsense Thelma Harper, better known as Mama.
