On this day, November 18, 1988, Disney’s animated musical Oliver & Company premiered in theaters. Directed by George Scribner, this modern adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist featured an impressive voice cast, including Joey Lawrence, Billy Joel, Natalie Gregory, Cheech Marin, Bette Midler, and more.

With a budget of $31 million, the film was a success, grossing $74.2 million worldwide ($53 million domestic). It stood out for its memorable songs, like Billy Joel’s “Why Should I Worry?”, and its depiction of 1980s New York City.
