On this day, November 26, 1986, Nutcracker: The Motion Picture premiered in theaters. Directed by Carroll Ballard, the film brought the Pacific Northwest Ballet’s production of Tchaikovsky’s classic holiday ballet to the big screen. Featuring enchanting choreography by Kent Stowell and sets and costumes designed by Maurice Sendak, the film reimagined the beloved story with a whimsical and artistic touch.
