On this day, December 19, 1986, No Mercy premiered in theaters. Directed by Richard Pearce, the film stars Richard Gere and Kim Basinger in a gritty crime thriller about betrayal, passion, and survival.

Gere plays Eddie Jillette, a Chicago cop who heads to New Orleans to avenge his partner’s murder. Along the way, he crosses paths with Michel (Kim Basinger), a woman tied to the dangerous world of crime. The film’s mix of action and sultry romance delivered strong performances from both leads, but it earned a modest $12.3 million at the box office.
