On this day, November 24, 1980, Midnight Oil released their EP Bird Noises. This four-track EP showcased the band’s early evolution, blending their raw energy with politically charged themes and dynamic instrumentation.

Bird Noises reached #28 on the Australian charts and featured standout tracks like “No Time for Games” and the instrumental “Wedding Cake Island,” which became fan favorites. The EP helped establish Midnight Oil’s reputation as a unique and powerful voice in Australian rock.

Fun Fact!

In 1976, Midnight Oil got their name by drawing it out of a hat, changing from their original band name, Farm.

What’s your favorite track from Bird Noises? How do you think it compares to Midnight Oil’s later works?
