On this day, September 27, 1986, Metallica’s bassist Cliff Burton was tragically killed in a tour bus accident in Sweden during the band’s Master of Puppets tour. Burton, only 24 at the time, had been sleeping in his bunk when the bus skidded off the road, throwing him out of the window, leading to his death.

Did You Know?
The band had drawn straws that night to decide who would get the preferred bunk. Burton won the draw, choosing the bunk that tragically led to his fatal accident.
