On this day, December 11, 1985, the sitcom Mary premiered on CBS. Starring the legendary Mary Tyler Moore, the show followed her as Mary Brenner, a former fashion writer turned journalist for a Chicago tabloid. Joining her were a talented cast, including John Astin and a young Katey Sagal in early career roles.

Despite the star power of Moore and the comedic potential of the premise, Mary struggled to find its footing and was canceled after just 13 episodes. However, it remains a noteworthy part of Mary Tyler Moore’s iconic TV career.
