On this day, November 22, 1985, King Solomon’s Mines premiered in theaters. Directed by J. Lee Thompson, this action-adventure film starred Richard Chamberlain as the dashing Allan Quatermain and Sharon Stone in one of her early roles, alongside Herbert Lom and John Rhys-Davies.

With a $12.6 million budget, the film earned $15 million at the box office. Loosely based on H. Rider Haggard’s novel, King Solomon’s Mines was packed with over-the-top action and humor, serving as a campy alternative to the Indiana Jones series.

Have you seen King Solomon’s Mines? Do you think it holds up as a fun adventure film, or does it feel like a product of its time?
