On this day, January 5, 1980, the final episode of the animated series Spider-Woman aired on ABC. This series introduced Jessica Drew, also known as Spider-Woman, as one of Marvel’s first female superheroes to headline her own animated show.

The show followed Jessica, a magazine editor who could transform into Spider-Woman to fight crime and battle supernatural threats. With her ability to fly, shoot venom blasts, and use her enhanced strength and agility, Spider-Woman faced villains ranging from spies to aliens. The show ran for one season, consisting of 16 episodes, and remains a notable part of Marvel’s early television ventures.

Fun Fact: Jessica Drew’s character was introduced to ensure Marvel had the trademark to “Spider-Woman,” preventing other companies from creating a similar character.

Did you ever watch Spider-Woman? How does it compare to other Marvel animated series from the 80s?
