On this day, January 31, 1989, Roy Orbison released his 22nd studio album, Mystery Girl. This posthumous release became one of Orbison’s most celebrated works, reaching #5 on the Billboard 200 charts and topping the charts in Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, and Australia.

The album featured the hit single You Got It, which became a global success and marked Orbison’s return to mainstream prominence before his untimely passing in late 1988. Produced by Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, and others, Mystery Girl was a showcase of Orbison’s timeless voice and heartfelt songwriting.

Fun Fact: The title Mystery Girl was inspired by Orbison’s wife, Barbara, who was affectionately referred to as his “mystery girl.”

Trivia Question: Which supergroup was Roy Orbison a member of, alongside Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Tom Petty, and Jeff Lynne?
