On this day, January 30, 1988, Need You Tonight by INXS became the #1 song in America, topping the Billboard Hot 100 from January 30 to February 5. This global hit also reached #1 in the UK, Canada, Ireland, and Portugal, cementing the band’s status as international rock icons.

Taken from their breakthrough album Kick, Need You Tonight is known for its seductive groove, catchy riff, and Michael Hutchence’s magnetic vocals. The song played a major role in turning Kick into a multi-platinum success and firmly establishing INXS as one of the biggest bands of the 80s.
