On this day, January 29, 1982, Shalamar released their sixth studio album, Friends. Known for their infectious blend of R&B, disco, and funk, Shalamar delivered one of their most successful albums, which reached #35 on the Billboard 200 charts and claimed the top spot on the R&B charts.

Friends included some of Shalamar’s biggest hits, such as A Night to Remember, There It Is, and the title track Friends. The album not only showcased their smooth harmonies and danceable grooves but also solidified their influence on 80s R&B and funk music.

Fun Fact: The lineup for Shalamar during Friends consisted of Jody Watley, Howard Hewett, and Jeffrey Daniel. Daniel is credited with introducing the "moonwalk" dance move, which later became synonymous with Michael Jackson.

Trivia Question: What year did Jody Watley win the Grammy Award for Best New Artist as a solo performer?
