On this day, January 28, 1989, A Man Called Hawk premiered on ABC. This spin-off of Spenser: For Hire starred Avery Brooks as the enigmatic and tough Hawk, a man with a strong sense of justice navigating the challenges of Washington, D.C.

Hawk, known for his cool demeanor and moral code, worked to help those in need while confronting corruption and violence in the city. Avery Brooks’ performance brought depth and complexity to the character, making him a standout figure in 80s television. Despite its potential, the series lasted only one season with 13 episodes.
