On this day, January 23, 1982, the sitcom One of the Boys premiered on NBC. The series starred legendary actor Mickey Rooney as Oliver Nugent, a lively grandfather who moves in with his grandson Adam, played by Dana Carvey, and his roommate, Jonathan (Nathan Lane). Together, they navigated generational differences and comedic hijinks.

Despite its promising cast, which included future stars Dana Carvey and Nathan Lane, One of the Boys struggled to find its audience and was canceled after one season, producing just 13 episodes. However, it remains a fun piece of TV history showcasing early performances by its talented cast.

Fun Fact: This show was one of Dana Carvey’s earliest roles before he became a household name on Saturday Night Live.

Trivia Question: What famous character did Dana Carvey create on Saturday Night Live, known for his exaggerated impressions of a church lady?
