On this day, January 22, 1982, the gritty crime thriller Vice Squad premiered in theaters. Directed by Gary Sherman, the film starred Season Hubley as Princess, a Hollywood prostitute forced to assist the police in capturing a brutal pimp named Ramrod, chillingly played by Wings Hauser. Gary Swanson rounded out the cast as the determined detective trying to bring Ramrod to justice.

Vice Squad gained attention for its dark portrayal of the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles and Wings Hauser’s haunting performance, which earned him critical acclaim. The film became a modest box office success, earning $13.2 million, and has since developed a cult following for its intense storytelling and unflinching realism.

Fun Fact: The movie’s theme song, Neon Slime, was performed by Wings Hauser himself and became an iconic part of the film’s identity.

Trivia Question: Which original MTV VJ, known for her pioneering work in music television, had a small role in Vice Squad?
