On this day, January 21, 1989, Phil CollinsTwo Hearts topped the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the #1 song in America. The hit remained at the top spot for two weeks, from January 21 to February 3, and also reached #1 in Canada, Denmark, and Japan.

Written by Phil Collins and Lamont Dozier of the legendary Motown songwriting team Holland-Dozier-Holland, Two Hearts was featured in the film Buster, in which Collins also starred. The upbeat track, with its catchy melody and nostalgic vibes, became one of Collins’ many chart-topping hits, showcasing his versatility as a musician.

Fun Fact: Two Hearts earned Collins a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song and received an Academy Award nomination.
