On this day, January 20, 1985, MacGruder and Loud premiered on ABC. The drama series followed married police officers Malcolm MacGruder (John Getz) and Jenny Loud (Kathryn Harrold) as they navigated the challenges of working together as partners on the force while keeping their relationship a secret from their colleagues.

Created by Steven Bochco, known for his work on Hill Street Blues, the show combined crime procedural elements with romantic drama. Despite its unique premise, MacGruder and Loud struggled to maintain viewership and was canceled after just one season, producing 14 episodes.

Fun Fact: The pilot episode of MacGruder and Loud aired immediately after Super Bowl XIX, giving the show a massive audience for its debut.

Trivia Question: Which other Steven Bochco-created series, debuting in 1981, became one of the most acclaimed police dramas of all time?
