On this day, January 16, 1987, the action-thriller Wanted: Dead or Alive premiered in theaters. Directed by Gary Sherman, the film starred Rutger Hauer as Nick Randall, a bounty hunter with a complex past, Gene Simmons as the ruthless terrorist Malak Al Rahim, and Robert Guillaume as Randall’s friend and ally.

The film follows Randall as he’s enlisted by the government to track down a dangerous terrorist threatening Los Angeles. Packed with high-stakes action, suspense, and gritty performances, Wanted: Dead or Alive grossed $7.5 million at the box office, surpassing its $4.5 million budget and solidifying its place as a cult favorite among 80s action fans.

Fun Fact: The film is a loose sequel to the 1958–1961 television series of the same name, which starred Steve McQueen as bounty hunter Josh Randall. Rutger Hauer’s character, Nick Randall, is portrayed as the grandson of McQueen’s iconic character.
