On this day, January 16, 1981, Harper Valley PTA, a sitcom based on the 1978 film and the hit 1968 song by Jeannie C. Riley, premiered on NBC. Starring Barbara Eden, the series followed the humorous antics of Stella Johnson, a widowed single mother who challenged the hypocritical members of her local PTA in the small town of Harper Valley.

The show ran for two seasons, producing 30 episodes, and was praised for its witty humor and Barbara Eden’s charming performance. Fans of Eden fondly remember her from her iconic role as Jeannie in I Dream of Jeannie, adding an extra layer of nostalgia to her portrayal of Stella Johnson.
