On this day, January 10, 1980, The Buggles released their debut album, The Age of Plastic. This synth-pop masterpiece, created by Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes, became a defining album of the early 80s, blending futuristic themes with infectious melodies.

The album reached #27 on the UK Albums Chart and featured the iconic track Video Killed the Radio Star, which skyrocketed to #1 in 16 countries. The song also holds a special place in music history as the first music video ever played on MTV when the channel launched on August 1, 1981. Other standout tracks like Living in the Plastic Age and Elstree further showcased the duo’s innovative sound.

Fun Fact: Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes went on to join the progressive rock band Yes after the release of The Age of Plastic, bringing their futuristic sound to a new audience.
