On this day, December 5, 1986, Gung Ho, a sitcom based on the 1986 film of the same name, premiered on ABC. The show followed the comedic cultural clashes between an American auto plant and its new Japanese management, inspired by the original film starring Michael Keaton.

Despite its attempt to build on the film’s success, the series ran for just one season with a total of 9 episodes. While short-lived, Gung Ho explored themes of workplace humor and cross-cultural understanding during a time of shifting global economies.

Did you watch Gung Ho? How do you think it compared to the original movie?
