On this day, December 6, 1980, the action-comedy series Freebie and the Bean premiered on CBS. Based on the 1974 film of the same name, the show followed the adventures of two unconventional detectives as they solved cases with humor and chaos.

Despite its promising premise and a blend of action and comedy, the series ran for just one season with a total of 8 episodes. While short-lived, Freebie and the Bean added its own charm to the era of buddy cop shows.
