On this day, October 20, 1989, Fat Man and Little Boy, directed by Roland Joffé, was released in theaters. Starring Paul Newman, Dwight Schultz, Bonnie Bedelia, John Cusack, and Laura Dern, the film told the story of the development of the atomic bombs during World War II. Despite its star-studded cast and a $30 million budget, the movie struggled at the box office, earning only $3.5 million.
