Escape from New York was one of those movies you rented just by looking at the box. A ruined city a guy with an eyepatch and a mission that felt impossible. This was John Carpenter’s futuristic action film with the mood of a western and the look of a punk rock magazine.

Snake Plissken became an icon and this movie became a cult classic as soon as it hit home video.
