On this day August 26, 1980, a tense situation unfolded at Harvey’s Hotel in South Lake Tahoe when the FBI was forced to detonate a bomb planted in the casino. The explosive device had been placed by several men disguised as delivery workers, who had carefully booby-trapped it, creating a dangerous and intricate situation.

Did You Know?
John Birges, the mastermind behind the bomb, was later convicted for constructing the device and attempting to extort $750,000 from the casino. Birges spent the rest of his life in prison, passing away in 1996 at the age of 74.
