Anthony Michael Hall opted out of "National Lampoon's European Vacation" (1985) in favor of "Weird Science" (also 1985), altering the continuity of the Griswold siblings' portrayals until Dana Barron reprised her role in "Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure" (2003).

During filming, writer/director John Hughes faced challenges balancing his commitment to the project with his desire to work on "The Breakfast Club" (1985). Despite the strain, Hughes agreed to direct, leveraging a deal with Universal to helm both films.

Hall's decision to join the "Saturday Night Live" cast for the 1985-1986 season at just 17 years old was unconventional for a rising star. Typically, established actors avoid ensemble shows, especially aimed at newcomers, after starring in their own hits. However, Hall's tenure on SNL, like his co-star Robert Downey Jr., was brief.
