On this day February 1, 1980, the movie "American Gigolo" had its premiere in theaters, with Richard Gere in the lead role. Interestingly, both Christopher Reeve and John Travolta turned down the opportunity to play the character Julian. I don't know how that would've worked out with Travolta. I think that Richard Gere was perfect for that role.
 
John Travolta is just a different kind of actor. He was perfect for movies like Grease and Saturday Night Fever. Richard Gere wouldn't of been in my opinion.
