On this day, December 19, 1980, the classic comedy 9 to 5 premiered in theaters. Starring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Dolly Parton, and Dabney Coleman, the film humorously tackled workplace inequality and sexism as three women band together to overthrow their egotistical boss.

The movie was a massive success, becoming the second-highest-grossing film of 1980. Dolly Parton’s title song “9 to 5” became just as iconic, earning Academy Award and Grammy nominations and solidifying her crossover success in music and film.
